![]() ![]() Very good bit of software with lots of flexibility built in - like the basic projection mapping mentioned above. (Surtitler with DSM, QLab with sound op). I've used Glypheo several times, including outputting via syphon over a network back into a QLab mac for integration into the video design. There didn't seem to be an easy way of re-sizing the image. This would have been really useful in Milan: we projected onto our pale-coloured backdrop (I made sure the stage lighting didn't spill too far up the cloth), but the captions were very wide - which meant in the horseshoe-shaped "opera house" style auditorium a lot of people on the sides couldn't see the ends of the lines. I think, thought I haven't tried sending it to a projector, that you can shrink or enlarge the image with some kind of zoom effect. You can format the size of the screen, the point size, choose a font etc as well, and it looks like like you can have text running in two or more parallel "tracks", and you can make these parallel texts visible or not, so I suppose you could use this for dialogue, for example by having character 1's words appear in track one, formatted to be top left, and character 2's words in track two, words appearing bottom right, or in a different colour, and so on, or alternatively have the original running alongside the translation, with only the translation visible, or possible more than one translation - for example an Italian opera playing in Aberystwyth with surtitles simultaneously in Welsh and English. At least with PPT, I suppose you could edit text or cut slides as needed. Even I (as a non-speaker of Italian) could tell there were lots of discrepancies between what I was hearing in English and what I would be reading in Italian, (if I had the ability so to do). We were part of a two-show package, and the script for our show was pretty fixed, but the other show that followed us had made some text changes since the version that had been sent through for translation, and this seemed to cause enormous problems, as the pdf couldn't be ediited on site (?). The man who was doing the shows in Milan (a local academic / writer / translator, but not, I think, a surtitler) was using a pdf. The only downside is that this is a bog-standard 60Hz affair, so you’ll have to look elsewhere for silky smooth scrolling. Maximum brightness is also pretty good, peaking at 483cd/m² in our tests, and the phone’s contrast is a respectable 1,082:1. With an sRGB colour gamut coverage of 99.1%, a total volume of 129.3% and an average Delta E (colour variance) of 2.09, the A13’s display isn’t too shabby, and I’ve seen worse on recent phones at this price – here’s looking at you, Nokia G21. It isn’t a scratch on Samsung’s AMOLED tech, but you’re getting a screen that looks rather good for the money. A simple IPS number, the A13’s 6.6in screen has a resolution of 2,408 x 1,080 and a pixel density of 400ppi. The Galaxy A13 is one of the few Samsung phones without an OLED display. Another bonus is the 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom, which is usually something missing from modern flagships, and the phone charges via USB-C, although it doesn’t come with a charging brick in the box. ![]() The side-mounted fingerprint reader returns, and in testing it recognised my digits without any hiccups. The screen is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 5, but the Galaxy A13 lacks any official IP rating for protection against the elements. Measuring 165 x 76 x 8.8mm (WHD), the Galaxy A13 isn’t the most pocketable of handsets, although this is offset slightly by the phone’s plastic build, which has limited the overall weight to just 195g. The A13’s single 8MP selfie camera is located inside a small notchlette at the top of the screen, although it doesn’t really get in the way while you’re watching YouTube or scrolling social media feeds. The front of the phone is completely dominated by a large, 6.6in display, with a slightly thick chin bezel. Unfortunately, this new design has an added drawback in that it’s a bit of a fingerprint magnet – it’s almost impossible to keep things smudge-free.īest smartphone 2023: The finest Android and Apple phones you can buy today Once more, the back of the phone is an all-plastic affair (no surprises there), but sadly it lacks the more premium look and feel of the previous model, consisting of just a single colour without any distinctive textures. Whether or not you prefer a pared-down design is entirely subjective, but I can’t shake the feeling that Samsung could have done more here to make the Galaxy A13 stand out. Where the Galaxy A12 was an intriguing mix of faux flagship looks with a unique two-tone design, the A13 is nothing of the sort and its appearance is rather tame by comparison. Kicking things off, the Galaxy A13’s design is rather pedestrian by modern standards. Samsung Galaxy A13 review: Design and key features It’s a great example of how to make a phone on a budget, with top-notch cameras, superior performance and a colour-accurate 90Hz OLED display. If you’re prepared to pay an extra £21 ( £200), you’ll probably be better off picking up the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 instead. There’s also the Nokia G21, which isn’t quite as good but gets you a 90Hz IPS screen and a rather nice design for just £150. Perhaps the biggest competition at this price comes in the form of the Moto G31, which is an excellent £170 handset with an OLED display and phenomenal battery life. ![]() ![]() ![]() “Into the Unknown” was nominated for Best Original Song at the 2020 Oscars earlier this year. It’s telling that the story is set the year after H.P. Within the context of The Angels Take Manhattan, however, this is linked cleverly to another literary tradition, namely that of weird fiction, a genre that has always been defined by the qlippothic, albeit usually under a different name. But as with Asylum of the Daleks, this paratext is fundamental to understanding the structure of The Angels Take Manhattan, an episode that from the first frame only makes sense if the audience goes in knowing that it’s Amy Pond’s departure story. To some extent this has been the major problem with this entire run of episodes: it’s clearly just 2012’s filler before we get to 2013, where the main event is, both because of the fundamentally forward-looking nature of the hype machine that fuels Doctor Who and because 2013 – 50 = 1963. All of this is ultimately framed by the paratext: by the fact that even before Asylum of the Daleks aired, Coleman had been announced as the next companion and the departure of the Ponds had been set for this story. But if that story was aggressively forward-looking, here we get the flip side: a story that cannot possibly look forward. Asylum of the Daleks served as Moffat’s most aggressive feint, at least in terms of the audience, with everything it was sold as disappearing in a haze of Jenna Louise Coleman.
